Hannah De Corte
01.04.22 - 28.05.22
La Patinoire Royale | Galerie Valérie Bach is delighted to announce the first solo show of Hannah De Corte at the gallery: Self-Play.
We had presented her work in the group show Young Belgium Opus 1: Ineffable in December 2020. This exhibition will present the latest work of the artist.
Hannah De Corte was born in 1988 and is based in Brussels. She observes the woven nature of the painter's canvas and the encounter between the materials of painting. In 2019, she completes her doctoral dissertation in art and art science (supported by the FRS-FNRS) with the subject of the raw, unprimed canvas as an aesthetic and iconological medium.
She has lectured at the Institute of Fine Arts in New York (US), the INHA in Paris (FR), the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (NL), and the STUK Museum in Leuven (BE).
The organic aspect of the support appears at the forefront of her work. The canvas is a means of composition and a source of optical effects. Starting from the grid of the canvas, Hannah De Corte questions the material constitution of an image. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art (OGR) in Turin (IT), at the Abbaye Saint André-Centre d'art contemporain CAC in Meymac (FR), at the BAC Atelier in Louvain (BE) and, in Brussels, at the Penthouse Art Residency, at the Médiatine, at the Musée Mode et Dentelle and at the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique.
She is also a member of the artists' collective Muesli, alongside Louis Darcel and João Freitas.
